Introduced in 1997, the Corum Tabogan represents a period of experimentation within Swiss watchmaking during the late 20th century. The model was engineered with a patented sliding and hinged case system that allows the central module to detach from the wrist and stand vertically as a small table clock.
The rectangular 24-millimeter steel housing operates via a dual-pusher mechanism located at the base, which releases the central component from the integrated bracelet. The silver dial features a horizontal textured pattern and applied indices, while a Swiss quartz movement provides standard timekeeping functionality.
Founded in 1955 by René Bannwart and Simone Ries in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Corum established itself by prioritizing unconventional case designs and numismatic integration. The firm gained early recognition for the Coin Watch introduced in 1964, which housed an ultra-thin mechanical movement inside an authentic sliced gold coin, signaling a departure from standard Swiss aesthetic codes.
During the late twentieth century, the manufacturer expanded its experimental design language through the introduction of the Golden Bridge and Admiral's Cup collections. The Golden Bridge, introduced in 1980, utilized a linear in-line baguette movement suspended within a transparent sapphire enclosure, a structural ethos that continues under the current ownership of the Citychamp Watch and Jewellery Group.
